My story: Hurdles, Hope, and a Heart that will not give up

My story is not a story of a life without hurdles.

It is a story of moving forward when the road feels hard.

It is a story of courage that grows in the quiet moments.

It is a story of hope that refuses to fade.

It is a story of dreams that will not be silenced.

And most of all, it is a story of how grace carried me through when i cannot walk alone.

After every valley I have walked through, I can stand here and say:

I am still here, and I am still growing.

There were days I wondered if I would ever get to where I am going.

But I kept walking.

There were moments the pain felt heavier than my strength.

But I kept trusting.

There were times people told me what I could not do.

But I kept believing in myself.

There were days I felt tired of trying.

But I woke up and tried again anyway.

Aliyah story

There are days when life feels like a road that winds a little more gently for some than it does for others. But I have come to realize that the road that curves and climbs is often the one that leads to the most beautiful views.

My name is Aliyah Yusuf, and I walk a path that is uniquely my own. I live with Spina Bifida — and yes, there are real challenges that come with that. There are days when my body feels heavier than my spirit. There are moments when I have to rest when I would rather keep going. There are times when people look at me and see only what they think I cannot do, instead of seeing everything that I can. But if there is one thing this journey has taught me, it is that my worth is never defined by how easily I walk through this world — it is defined by the strength I carry within it.

It has not always been easy. There were seasons when I felt like I was watching life happen from a little bit of the sidelines. There were mornings I woke up and wished things were different — that school was easier to get to, that moving around took less effort, that I did not have to think twice about things that came simply to others. And sometimes, in the quiet of the night, I wondered if my dreams were just meant to remain dreams — if I would ever truly get to where I was hoping to go.

But then something beautiful happened. Slowly, gently, I began to understand: my challenges are not here to stop me. They are here to shape me. They have taught me patience that runs deep. They have given me a compassion that reaches far beyond my own life. They have shown me that courage is not about never feeling afraid — it is about taking one more step forward, even when your legs are tired and your heart is a little nervous.

And so I kept going. I kept studying. I kept hoping. I kept showing up for myself, even on the days when showing up felt like the hardest thing I could possibly do.

Aliyah story

Today, I am proud to say that I am a student — hungry to learn, eager to grow, and determined to build a future that matters. My journey to school might look different from yours. I might need an apartment that is accessible, a little extra care, and a community that stands beside me. But that does not make me less committed, less capable, or less deserving of my place in the classroom and in this world.

I am Aliyah Yusuf — a young lady with dreams just as big, just as bright, and just as worthy as anyone else’s. I am learning that asking for help isn’t weakness — it is how we all move forward together. I am learning that my body is a good home, even when it requires a little more kindness and care. I am learning that being a warrior does not mean I never feel tired — it means I rest, and then I rise again.

If you are reading this and you too feel like your path is a little steeper than everyone else’s — please hear me: you are not alone. Your life is not a burden. Your story is not a mistake. The things that make life harder for you right now may very well become the very things that make your victory so much more meaningful when you look back at where you started.

Aliyah story

Do not let anyone tell you what you cannot be. Do not let anyone measure your worth by how you move through the world. Your value lives in your heart, your kindness, your dreams, and the beautiful way you keep showing up — even when it’s hard.

I am still growing. I am still learning. I am still resting, rising, and reaching. And I hope that my story — my life — reminds you that whatever you are carrying, you are more than enough just as you are.
