Every October 6th is celebrated as World Cerebral Palsy Day. It’s a day to raise awareness about the condition and also to push for demands in creating an enabling and inclusive environment for those living with the condition. This year’s theme is titled millions of reasons.
Cerebral Palsy is a neurological condition that is caused by brain damage mostly at birth or during the developmental stage of a child and affects movement and posture. It also affects vision, hearing and the ability to commutate. Regardless of these challenges, people living with Cerebral Palsy can have a good life as they grow with the help of multiple therapies and other medical interventions.
One such people living with Cerebral Palsy is Oluwabusola Claudia Akinsola. She is someone who is highly-determined and driven and has not let the challenges that come with the condition to be a setback in her life. Rather she is keen to make positive impact in society and encourages everyone living with Cerebral Palsy to celebrate themselves. Below is an excerpt of her message:
“I should be celebrated because I refused to give up and I conquered against all odds. I am making a difference. I should be celebrated because I am a living proof that Cerebral Palsy can’t stop you from achieving your dreams. I am living my life to the fullest.
“I am a proof that with God and determination you can be whatever you want to be. I should be celebrated because I am a Banker and I have been working with Letshego Micro Finance Bank for four years and counting. I am an amazing warrior.
“Everyone living with Cerebral Palsy should be celebrated because we are best version of ourselves and we came,we saw and we conquered. Isn’t that wonderful?. It is Green October and Green is life. Life is indeed beautiful.”
